I had thought I'd stay in the US through the first week in April and then head to Central America. Given my current employment situation (not), I thought it would be an excellent time to visit friends!
So - can you please explain to me why it is $291 to fly round trip from D.C. to Costa Rica but I can't find a reasonably priced flight to Denver?
Another fun quandary I encountered today involved the following:
To fly from San Jose, Costa Rica to Montego Bay, Jamaica costs $773 when booked as an independent ticket
To fly from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Buenos Aires, Argentina costs $1100 when booked as an independent ticket.
However - if you book a San Jose to Montego Bay to Buenos Aires ticket (please denote nothing round trip about this) it costs $663. This is for literally the exact same flights as above.
So I spend a lot of time on Kayak trying to figure out how to see my friends state side and figure out how to move around once I head down south.

I would have thought you'd have lots of comments here, what with all the flying that goes on in our little circle!
Maybe it's because the airline thinks that if you are looking for a "direct" flight, that you're willing to pay more to avoid the inconvenience of a layover and a connection, at least, that's my take on it.
My take is also, if you want to fly from San Jose to Montego bay, make sure it is the connection for the Buenos Aires flight, and just forget to get on the Montego bay to Buenos Aires part.
That's probably going to make the airplane police mad or something though.
I am finally catching up on reading your adventures. And I am still terribly jealous! You must have quite the nest egg, credit card debit or a lovely benefactor. I use Kayak quite a bit myself. Lately I have been trying to figure out the best flights from Philly to Vegas to San Fran. Yes, we are taking part of our vacation in SF. NUTS! But I love that city, Napa and the coast. Time to share with Bob what a great area it is. Plus we can visit with my sister.
